The Effect of aging on the activities of hepatic purine catabolizing enzymes in CCI4-treated rats

Abstract
To evaluate an effect of aging on the purine catabolism in CCI4-intoxicated rats, 50% carbontetrachloride(CCI4) in olive oil (0.1§¢/100g body weight) was intraperitoneally administered to 5 weeks or 10 weeks aging rats. The rats of liver weight/body weight, serum levels of alanine aminotrasferase activities and hepatic lipid peroxide contents to each control group were higher in 10 weeks rats than 5 weeks rats. On the histopathological findings, the 10 weeks rats showed the more severe liver injury compared to the 5 weeks rats. 10 weeks rats showed the more increased serum levels of uric acid and allantoin both in CCI4 treated and control group than those 5 weeks rats. The hepatic purine catabolizing enzyme activities both in the control xathine oxidase activity was the highest in differences between the 5 weeks and 10 weeks rats. Hepatic xianthine oxidase in 10 weeks rats showed the more increased Vmax value than that in 5 weeks rats both in control and CCI4-treated rats. In conclusion, aging influences on the purine catabolism in CCI4-treated rats.
